I really liked it. It almost felt like a reboot of the show, especially in terms of style. It looked less like an average procedural show.
I loved that the FBI seemed a lot more competent without needing Red pointing them in the right direction all the time, and I especially liked that Liz’s psych background came into play. It hasn’t been fully utilized yet, but it’s nice that it got a mention right from the start. I’m hopeful for a better case for it to really be used on in the future.
The new characters are great, and I’m looking forward to seeing where they take them. It was also nice to have so many female characters around in general since they were thin on the ground last season.
So, overall, it was quite a good episode! My only complaint is that I think an episode like that needs more than 42 minutes. The fast pace was great, but a little breathing room could have possibly perfected some scenes more. Maybe Red could have been taken by Samar next episode? Although I assume she’ll be much more involved next episode which is why they had to slot her scenes into the already full season opener!
